Wonosobo, Antara Jateng - The Wonosobo district administration, Central Java Province, fully supports the idea of transforming Dieng into a world-class geopark.

"Making Dieng a geopark is a smart idea that should be fully supported," Vice Regent of Wonosobo Agus Subagiyo stated here on Wednesday (June 1).

Subagiyo has urged all relevant task force units to support the realization of the plan.

The Dieng geopark will have positive impacts, particularly in relation to recovery and critical land conservation efforts as well as the empowerment of the local community.

A geopark expert from the Geological Agency of Bandung Yun Yunus Kusumabrata claims to have researched several geopark areas across the world, including in the United States and Canada.

Of all the geoparks visited, the Dieng plateau is more interesting, he remarked.

"The natural surroundings of Dieng are so interesting that thousands of tourists are drawn to visit this area every week," he pointed out.

Dieng is an active volcanic region and can be regarded as a giant volcano. Dieng is a marshy plateau that forms the floor of a caldera on the Dieng Volcanic Complex at an altitude of two thousand meters above sea level.

The uniqueness in the formation process had led to the creation of an exotic landscape. Telaga Warna, or known as the Colorful Lake, reflects the colors of green, blue, and purple and the view of the sunrise from the summit of Mount Sikunir is scenic.
