Purwokerto, ANTARA JATENG - Revitalizing embankments is one of the effective solutions to prevent flooding, according to Ardiansyah, a lecturer of agricultural engineering at the Jenderal Soedirman University`s Faculty of Agriculture.
"Revitalization of embankments, especially during the dry season, is important since it is one of the effective solutions to prevent flooding during the rainy season," he remarked here on Tuesday.
He added that another solution to prevent flooding is to increase the water catchment areas in urban locations.
"For instance, the biopore infiltration hole technology will reduce surface runoff," he said.
He said the community should also play an active role in anticipating floods.
"Any practices that can obstruct the water flow, such as waste disposal in rivers, must be stopped," he emphasized.
Ardiansyah said, flooding can occur, as the capacity of the river is not sufficient to accommodate the flow of water.
