Semarang (Antaranews Jateng) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) admitted to being surprised by the fact that several hoaxes were still circulating despite strict legal action being taken in several cases.
Speaking at a gathering with the students of Al Itqon Islamic Boarding School in Semarang, Central Java, on Saturday, President Jokowi revealed that several hoax cases had been dealt with legally, such as the People`s Torch and the Saracens.
"There are still thousands of similar cases, and are there nothing better?" the president asked.
According to the president, in every regional or presidential election, hoaxes and slander are always spread, especially on social media.
"That is neither Indonesian manners, nor Indonesian ethics, nor our Islamic ethics," Jokowi pointed out.
The president claimed that similar to the 2014 election, he was the target of such hoax attacks and defamation.
However, the head of state responded to them as something natural.
"I am not bothered, but is that good education?" the president stated.
Hence, the president entrusts the students of the Islamic boarding school to maintain harmony and unity.
In the meantime, Chairman of the Al Wathoniyah Foundation of Al Itqon Islamic Boarding School K.H. Umaidillah Shodaqoh expressed pride in the president for his approach to dealing with slander and hoaxes.
"We are proud that our president remains patient and gentle, and full of love for the people," Shodaqoh remarked.
