"Besides building houses for the poor, the ministry will also give stimulant funds to residents for increasing the quality of their homes," Expert Staff of the People's Housing Minister Imam Achit said in Cilacap on Saturday.

Imam Achit made the statement in a ceremony of laying the first stone of the construction of the Imam Ghozali Islamic Religious Institute (IAIIG) in Sugihan, Cilacap.

He also said that the funds for increasing the quality of houses are for their roofs, floors, and walls, amounting to Rp 6 million per house.

He said the ministry also will make available Rp11 million for each totally damaged house.

He said the ministry also has a program for building rented low-cost high-rise houses (rusunawa) for members of the military, police, state and private institutes of higher learning, Islamic religious institutions, and workers.

He said one of the high-rise low-cost houses built by the ministry is located in Solo when its mayor Joko Widodo moved sidewalk vendors.

"This year the government plans to build 172 high-rise low-cost houses. Their number in the next few years will continue to increase because houses are very important needs," he said.

Besides the financial assistance, he said, the People's Housing Ministry will also give some help including facilities and infrastructure like clean water, waste disposal facilities and electricity.

On a different occasion, special staff of the People's Housing Ministry Amir Mahmudin said the government under the People's Housing Ministry will give assistance to build 600 houses in Cilacap regency.

He made the statement on the sidelines of when inspecting houses of Jalan Singalodra, Cilacap, and Doplang village, Adipala sub-district.
