Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and First Lady Iriana Jokowi joined a fun walk held by Nahdlatul Ulama, Indonesia's largest Islamic organization, in the Central Java city of Solo on Sunday.
President Jokowi said he appreciated Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) for the fun walk and sports and arts week (Porseni) it has initiated to commemorate its 100th anniversary.
In the event that started from the Pura Mangkunegaran Palace and was joined by thousands of residents, the head of state was seen walking along with his grandson, Jan Ethes Srinarendra.
President Jokowi said the fun walk and Porseni-related events would make those participating in them more healthy.
"With healthy people, our country will be strong," he said at the event that was also joined by several ministers and top state officials.
Among them were Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir, and Youth and Sports Minister Zainudin Amali.
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Bambang Soesatyo, and House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani were also seen joining the fun walk.
Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo, Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and NU leader, Yahya Cholil Staquf, were also seen in the event.
NU was founded during the Dutch colonial era by Indonesia's well-respected ulema, Hasyim Asy'ari, on January 31, 1926.
It was established in a region currently known as the district of Jombang in East Java Province.
