The police shot two of the alleged terrorists at around 9.30 pm on Friday during a firefight in Tipes, Serengan. The two were known by their initials as F (10) and M (19).

Another suspect, known as B, was arrested in Gondarejo, Karanganyar, Pradopo said.

Further, a police anti-terror unit Densus 88 member involved in the fight, identified as Second Brigadier Suherman, was killed during a raid in Tipes.

The police chief said the two alleged terrorists killed were suspected in the shooting at a police post in Gemblegan, on August 17, as well as a grenade attack at a police post in Gladak on August 8 and the shooting to death of a police officer at a police post in Singosaren on August 30.

Officials said the Densus 88 members shot at the two suspects when they resisted arrest.

Pradopo noted that the police confiscated a pistol, three magazines, 43 9mm bullets, a hand phone and documents from the suspects.

"We have questioned several witnesses in connection with the terror action and we will also continue investigating the involvement of the young men in the new group," he said.

He added that the suspects obtained guns smuggled into the country from the Philippines, which the police are also investigating.

Regarding their motive, he said the men hoped to take revenge on the police, who have worked to prevent terrorists from operating freely.

He also said the situation in the city remained calm, despite several recent terror attacks.
