He took an opportunity to visit the 9th-century Buddhist Temple in the company of Turkish ambassador to Indonesia, Zekeriya Akcam, during his visit to Yogyakarta.

Mura Aristina, an official from the Borobudur Conservation Office, who escorted the Turkish delegation, said the Turkish deputy prime minister was very impressed with the peaceful atmosphere surrounding the temple and planned to visit it again sometime in the future.

Mura said he explained the history of the temple as well as stories behind the reliefs on the walls around the temple.

The deputy prime minister admired these stories.

Religious rites are still carried out at the temple by Buddhists even though it is located in an area that has a majority Moslem population.
