Perhaps , yesterday the ink was drySemarang, (Antaranews Jateng) - Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo looked relaxed in answering questions about the delay of announcement about candidates to contest the gubernatorial elections in June this year.
Based on a survey, Ganjar, a cadre of the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), was still a favorite to retain the governorship, but his implication in a big corruption case now under investigation may cause a setback as rivals are likely to capitalize on his position.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has summoned him for questioning as a witness in the electronic identity card case involving high government officials and business leaders. A number of suspects have been convicted and a big suspect former House Speaker and general chairman of the country`s second largest party Golkar Setya Novanto has been arrested.
"It (the delay) was a technical matter, just wait until January 7 . Perhaps , yesterday the ink was dry," Ganjar said jokingly.
On Thursday, PDIP General Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri announced candidates for governors in four provinces but kept observers guessing until Jan. 7, the last day allowed for official registration, who is to be the candidate of the ruling party to contest the election in one of the largest constituencies in the country.
Ganjar said he had no special preparations pending the announcement by the party.
"Nothing unusual. What is important is we continue working. Let us leave it to the people to make evaluation." he said lightly.
He said no PDIP cadre , good or bad in performance, could take anything for granted that he would get the recommendation to become a candidate and win the election.
"We are ready when we are entrusted with a duty and are ready when we are no longer entrusted with the duty," he said.
