Chinese Vice President to attend Jokowi-Amin inauguration

"At the invitation of the Indonesian government, Vice President Wang Qishan will become a special envoy of President Xi to attend the inauguration of President Joko Widodo in Jakarta on October 20," Chinese Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson Geng Shuang noted in a written statement made available to Antara on Tuesday.

From Jakarta, Wang will fly to Tokyo to attend Naruhito's coronation ceremony as emperor of Japan on Tuesday, Oct 22 .
Wang, one-time mayor of Beijing, is familiar with Indonesia and had once paid a visit to Jakarta.
On the sidelines of the Leaders' Roundtable of the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing last April, Wang had received the visit of Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla.
Three months later, Wang also received the visit of Indonesia's fifth president, Megawati Sukarnoputri, in Beijing.
During his meeting with the chief of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Wang expressed his admiration for the late Founding President Soekarno, Megawati's father, for his initiative to organize the Asia-Africa Conference in Bandung, West Java, in 1955.
Indonesian President-elect Jokowi and Vice President-elect Amin will be inaugurated at the Parliament Building in Jakarta on Sunday, Oct 20, 2019, and guests from friendly countries will also attend the event.
