Kudus (Antaranews Jateng) - Construction of the Logung dam in Kudus, Central Java, is to be completed in September this year, a project leader said.

Plan to finish the construction in 2017 or earlier than schedule failed mainly on too much rain hampering works, the project leader Dodi Indrawan said here on Sunday.

"So far completion is 85 percent that we can expected to finish the project in September this year," Dodi said.

He said currently the workers are piling earth to build the dam when there is no rain.

"We could not build a dam when there is rain unless we cover the dam with plastic," he added.

The workers also are building the spillway , he said, adding, when the wall has been built and construction of the spillway has been completed, the reservoir would be filled with water from the river.

He said it would take a season to fill the dam with water, adding so far no problem other than rain hampering the process of building the dam.

The dam would benefit the local people as it would better guarantee irrigation and help prevent flooding in rainy days.

Earlier villagers rejected the construction of the dam in their farm lands. They case even was brought to court but the dispute was finally settled with a compromise.

The project costs around Rp604.15 billion with fund from the state budget.
