Lira President H.M. Jusuf Rizal.
"The regulation banning officials from having more than one wife has resulted in both executive, legislative and judicial officials as well as leaders of state enterprises to secretly keep mistresses," Lira President H.M. Jusuf Rizal, told ANTARA Central Java here on Saturday.
The condition reflects weak disciplinary enforcement in the government bureaucracy, Jusuf Rizal said on the occasion of the Mothers' Day Commemoration.
He said there are already many cases of officials holding strategic position in the government abusing power after having love affairs with other women.
He said the religion (Islam) is not against men having more than one wife but the problem will come when one wife is not treated fairly.
He said Lira has received many complaints from wives being treated unfairly, abused by their husbands, who turned out to have mistresses.
Lira wants that the rights of women are protected by law, he said.
