The legal process of the investigation of Baswedan should be transparent, President Jokowi told the press after offering Friday Prayers here. He was responding to reports on Baswedan's arrest by the Police's Crime Investigation Department.

The head of state has instructed the Police, KPK, and Attorney General's Office (AGO) to jointly combat corruption in the country.

"Yes, all of them: the KPK, Police, and AGO, must develop a synergy to eradicate corruption. I have conveyed my instruction to all of them," Jokowi stated.

Jokowi has also asked the Deputy Police Chief, Commissioner General Budi Gunawan, not to make any controversial statement.

Novel Baswedan was arrested by Bareskrim officers at Baswedan's residence in Jakarta, at midnight on Friday.

According to the arrest warrant shown to Baswedan's wife, he was arrested for evading two police interrogation sessions in a case implicating him as a suspect in a gunning down a swallow's nest thief in 2004 when he was a detective chief of the Bengkulu Police.

At least one of the five leaders of the KPK has threatened to resign if Baswedan is detained.
